Polack, member of a Jewish family with Australian connections, was in New Zealand between 1831 and 1837, firstly in Hokianga and then in the Bay of Islands. Much on journeys through Northland, particularly Kaipara, Waimamuku, Waipoua, the Bay of Plenty, East Coast, Uawa, Tolaga Bay, the missions, European land purchases and events of the 1830s. This book contains the first published reference on the extinct Moa. The frontispiece of volume 2 shows a whaling scene:"The North Cape New Zealand and Sperm Whale Fishery".
